Why work for us? Hear from Josh, Senior Environmental Compliance Officer

As an Environmental Compliance Officer, Josh takes pride in the complexity and diversity of his role. Turn it up and hear what it’s like to work in our busy regional offices.

As a Compliance Officer, I’m responsible for the regulation of the EP act. We regulate activities such as chemical manufacture, sewage treatment plants, landfills, and a whole host of other environmentally relevant activities. I love working in central Queensland especially our Gladstone office. Our work is so diverse we have coal wharves, we have gas plants, we have chemical manufacture, we have refineries, sewage treatment plants on tropical islands; the work here is just so diverse and quite complex. It really is a great place to be. Our team in Gladstone (much like any other departmental office), it's a really supportive culture. We've got some of the best scientific minds Queensland and Australia has to offer. If we come up with a difficult problem, we've got so many amazing networks in the department that we can reach out to and utilise to solve a problem. There's a certain sense of pride that you get for working for the government; it's about giving back to your community. It's about actively making a difference, career progression and extending your skills is certainly a positive, whether that be in our Gladstone centre, or another regional centre, there's always an opportunity and there's always a way to improve your skills and improve your knowledge through training and advancements in our business.
