Carli, Wildlife Officer

I started with a marine background and often we would have wildlife officers bring in sea turtles.

I remember looking at them and going, what do you do?

And I thought that's where I want to be.

When you're working as a wildlife officer in Queensland, you could be at the top of the State with animals like cassowaries and crocodiles, or you might be working down the southern end of the State where we are, where you've just got such a variety of regulated wildlife that people keep and interact with.

Best parts of my job is going in and seeing people's collections and assisting them with what they need to keep inside our framework.

But it's such an amazing thing to see the love people have for their animals.

Everything we do counts.

People see us in this uniform and the kids are really inspired.

They're inspired to become a Ranger or a Wildlife Officer.

They're inspired to, you know, work hard to eventually be in a position where they can do something to conserve the wildlife as well, and that's pretty special.
