If you pay enough attention, the country will speak to you.

My name's Elly.

I'm a Mununjali Minjungbal woman of the Yugambeh speaking clan.

Growing up, I used to do a lot of bushwalking and as I got older I started to really connect with my culture and it seems like being a Ranger, everything just went hand in hand.

Our job's not always glorious.

You do get messy, you do get dirty, but some of the experiences that I've had, you can only read about. Working hand in hand with traditional owners, we were able to do a cultural burn and burn country the right way. Being a part of cool burns where you can see insects climb higher up the tree and they're able to escape the flames.

I feel very honoured to be a part of that.

The department has always been encouraging. Being a mum of young kids, sometimes I have to drop everything but it's nice coming to work as well, because I'm not just mum at work.

I am a traditional owner, but I am also a Ranger for the department.

What we wanna achieve is for the benefit of country.
