The EA application relates to the Big Vein South Gold Project (the Project) that involves the construction, operation and decommissioning of an open cut gold mine on a greenfield site in North Queensland. The proposed mine is located approximately 100km north of Richmond and 380km west of Townsville.

The project will produce up to approximately 1.95 million tonnes per annum of Run of Mine (ROM) gold ore. The ore will be processed on site to produce gold doré (solid bars containing gold alloy). The mine will yield up to approximately 100,000 ounces of gold doré per annum. Gold doré bars will be transported from the mine site via plane to a refinery.

The resource activity is proposed to occur on the following tenure(s) and will involve:
- Mining Lease 2729, ML2739, ML90238 and ML100236.

Resource activity: Mining activity relating to a mining lease

It is advised that Strategic Minerals Corporation Pty Ltd has lodged an application for a site-specific Environmental Authority and a Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plan in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1994. The Environmental Authority reference number is A-EA-NEW-100363198.

The application relates to the Big Vein South Gold Project, a proposed open cut gold mine located approximately 100km north of Richmond and 380km west of Townsville, immediately east of the rural locality of Woolgar, within the Richmond Shire Local Government Area. The project site comprises four existing mining leases covering a total area of approximately 2,281ha (approximately 22.8km²).

The resource activity is proposed to occur on the following tenure(s) and will involve:

  • Mining Leases 2729, 2739, 90238 and 100236
  • Lot on Plans: Lot 2 on WLR12 and Lot 2414 on SP289336
  • Resource Activity, Schedule 3, 16: Mining Gold Ore.

The application documents for the project consist of the site-specific Environmental Authority application, Environmental Assessment Report, Progressive Rehabilitation Closure Plan, Supporting Technical Assessments, the Information Request Notice and responses to the Information Request Notice.
