The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation is proposing to make a number of amendments to the forestry and protected area estates. This public notice is pursuant to section 173Q of the Nature Conservation Act 1992, and also seeking views in consideration of the Human Rights Act 2019, including Aboriginal peoples’ and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultural rights.

The proposals include revocations administered under section 26 of the Forestry Act 1959 and section 32 of the Nature Conservation Act 1992, and other machinery amendments to existing protected areas.

The proposals that revoke parts of the forestry and protected area estates are considered necessary actions that must be taken to promote balanced outcomes for management of the estates or the public interest. The proposals also include redescriptions of parts of the protected area estate using contemporary survey and mapping technology and standards, for example, providing a more accurate area calculation or simplifying the lot on plan description using a new administrative plan, without changing the boundaries on-ground.

Please see sketches of the proposed amendments (PDF, 1.1MB) .
