Seasonal closure areas for nesting birds on the Great Barrier Reef Coast Marine Park

Access to the following seasonal closure areas is prohibited from 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025 to protect nesting and roosting birds at Woody Island on Low Islets Reef (16-028), The beach adjoining Taylor Cay on Taylor Reef (17-064) and The beach adjoining Sisters Island on South Barnard Islands (17-046).

This notice is published pursuant to section 81 of the Marine Parks (Great Barrier Reef Coast) Zoning Plan 2004.

Access to the following locations is prohibited during the seasonal closure period of 1 October 2024 to 31 March 2025 to protect nesting and roosting birds:

  • Woody Island on Low Islets Reef (16-028)
  • The beach adjoining Taylor Cay on Taylor Reef (17-064)
  • The beach adjoining Sisters Island on South Barnard Islands (17-046)

During the closure period, access to these locations and airspace up to 500ft above the ground or water is prohibited unless authorised.
