Tourism strategy: maximising Queensland’s green and gold runway

Queensland is gearing up for an unprecedented era of tourism growth, driven by the green and gold runway leading up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and a record investment of more than $1 billion in tourism over four years. We’re working with industry to position our state as a global leader in tourism, supporting richer visitor experiences, more jobs and better infrastructure.

Tourism is vital to Queensland’s economy.

Tourism is a powerful engine for Queensland’s economy - creating jobs, attracting investment and enriching communities. We boast unparalleled competitive advantages, two of the world’s oldest continuous cultures, five World Heritage-listed sites, nationally and internationally renowned attractions and experiences, and a diversity of natural environments.

The green and gold runway allows us to not only showcase our natural beauty, vibrant cities, and rich culture, arts, and heritage but also to build a stronger economy and create unforgettable destinations and experiences that will bring people together.

We’ll work with industry to deliver greater investment in new tourism products and infrastructure, as well as jobs and skills now and for the future.

Destination 2045: Delivering Queensland’s Tourism Future

Destination 2045 is a bold plan for delivering Queensland’s tourism future and positioning us as a global tourism leader. The plan will boost our tourism industry, doubling the value of visitor expenditure to the state’s economy to $84 billion by 2045 and delivering lasting benefits to Queensland communities.

To kickstart delivery of this plan, the Queensland Government has committed $446 million of new funding over four years, comprising a new dedicated events fund to attract world-class events to Queensland, unlocking air routes through the Connecting Queensland Fund to drive visitation, supporting the rollout of new tourism products across the state and boosting industry capability.

Our strategic priorities:

  • Create sustainable ecotourism experiences
  • Transform Queensland into Australia’s event capital
  • Improve road, rail, air and sea connections to our vast regions
  • Bring in more visitors through world-class marketing and cement Queensland as the home of the holiday
  • Encourage private sector investment that supports new and revitalised tourism infrastructure, experiences and attractions so there’s even more to see and do.
  • Empower our industry operators to thrive by cutting red tape, boosting capability, supporting innovation and investing in skills.

By creating a stronger, more innovative tourism industry we’re also helping to support jobs and businesses, better infrastructure and services, more vibrant towns and regions and richer visitor experiences - delivering benefits for both visitors and Queenslanders.
