Destination 2045 is a bold plan to deliver Queensland’s tourism future and position us as a global tourism leader, showcasing our environment, lifestyle, cultures and regions.
We’ll capitalise on the once-in-a-generation opportunity presented through the next 20 years to showcase our state on the global stage. Through the green and gold runway, we will deliver a generational legacy for Queenslanders for decades after the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The plan will supercharge our tourism industry, doubling the value of visitor expenditure to the state’s economy to $84 billion by 2045 and delivering lasting benefits to Queensland communities.
Over the next four years, we are investing more than $1 billion in tourism – a record total investment. This includes $446 million in new funding over four years to kickstart the delivery of Destination 2045 made up of:
- $200 million over four years from 2025–2026 for product development and aviation attraction
- $100 million over four years from 2025–26 for event attraction
- $146 million over two years from 2027–28 for Tourism and Events Queensland to continue their vital work.
It also includes significant investments to deliver key government commitments from 2025–26:
- $19.7 million to deliver the next stage of the Wangetti Trail
- $15.5 million to upgrade the Smithfield Mountain Bike Trail
- $5 million to support the proposed Whitsunday Skyway attraction.
